Lost between the sounds of the ocean waves and the seagulls overhead, you quickly pull the car onto the side of the road, hearing the ping of gravel on your wheel wells. Aside from the fish market at the entrance to town, this quaint little antique store is a regular stop whenever you come to visit the island. Known for its eclectic assortment of treasures both old and new, scoured from markets and estate sales around the world, this particular shop is your all-time favorite. On occasion, you buy something, but even on those trips when you leave empty-handed, you always feel as if you've had the pleasure of discovering something new.
The bell on the front door clangs above you as you enter the shop. The shop owner, whose name, despite all of these trips, you've never actually learned, greets you warmly. She's gift wrapping a rustic wood step stool for a customer signing her credit card receipt at the counter. You can't help but wish you'd been here just a few minutes sooner - that step stool could have been yours!
With the only purpose of being wowed by something from some regal estate on the mainland, you stroll around the shop, and your eye instantly settles upon a beautiful heart-shaped bottle. Small in stature, it is nearly identical to the bottle that graced the sofa table in your childhood home. It's in your hands - soon to be yours - and you can't help but wonder if it isn't the exact same one that your mother sold at that yard sale so many years ago.
