I grew up with horses. They have always been a part of my life. As a small child, I rode western because it's what my parents did, and it's all I knew. I was familiar with quarter horses, appaloosas, arabians and Tennessee walkers. My father was in the army so we moved every three or four years. I rode whatever horses were around. I was ten when we moved to Oahu, Hawaii and my world changed forever. It was there that I discovered English riding, more specifically the sport of eventing. Frederico Tesio, born in 1869, was one of the most important thoroughbred breeders in the history of the sport of horse racing. In fact, the Italian is sometimes known as the most important figure in the history of Italian horse racing.
Tesio is an inspiration those who breed horses, as he was one of the first who tried to create an excellent sport horse using his intuition and his analytical mind. He used his intellect to improve the genetics of his racehorses, long before genetics were studied and understood. His breeding designs made history, and today, his process is called the Tesio Method.
