Why We Love It: In our opinion, they have the best bread on the island. It's the perfect place to grab sandwiches on your way to the beach or enjoy them outside on their rustic picnic tables.

    The Lobster Trap

What to Order: Anything from the raw bar.

Life on Nantucket: Where to Sun - Best Beaches on Nantucket

Where to Sun: Best Beaches on Nantucket

Nantucket is home to some of the most beautiful beaches around. If you're visiting the island this summer, check out a few of our favorites places to sun!

    Children's Beach

Why We Love It: If you're visiting Nantucket with children, this beach is perfect (hence the name). Gentle waves, a lifeguard on duty, bathrooms, and a playground nearby make it easy to keep the little ones entertained.

    Madaket Beach

Why We Love It: Madaket Beach is a large beacon on the southwestern side of the island. This beach has the best views of the sunset, but it's only accessible by a four-wheel drive vehicle.

    Cisco Beach

Why We Love It: Also located on the southwestern side of the island, Cisco Beach is a surfer's delight. Beware that there are no restrooms and the surf is very strong, but there are lifeguards on duty during the day.

    What's Your Favorite Beach?

Being an island, Nantucket is literally surrounded by beaches and there are certainly some other great spots. What are some of your favorite beaches? Are there any that you think should be included when thinking of the best beaches on Nantucket?

  • Life on ACK: Father's Day

Life on ACK: Father's Day Activities

Father's Day is this weekend and we hope you have plans with your dad. Last week, we brought you our Father's Day Style Stack with gift ideas for dad.  This week, we've got some Father's Day activity suggestions.

    Fishing

Stock up on gear at Bill Fisher Tackle and then head out to Great Point or Smith's Point for some surf-casting with Dad. If you prefer to get out on the water, book a charter. There are many to choose from including Fishing Nantucket with Captain Matt and Just Do It Too Sportfishing.

    Golf

Nantucket has some great golf courses. Although Sankaty Golf Club and the Nantucket Golf Club are both private courses, there are still courses available to the public. Check out Miacomet Golf Club for a full 18-hole expereience on a beautifully mainted course. For a more laid-back course, try the Old 'Sconset Golf Course. Better known as Skinner's to locals, this course offers 9 holes with a more rustic feel.

    Boating/Sailing

Take dad out for a day on the water. Grab some sandwiches at Something Natural or Fresh and head out for a day on the water. While it's always nice to have a friend with a boat, rentals are availalbe at Island Boat Rental on Straight Wharf.

Prefer to be powered by the wind? Nantucket Community Sailing offers sailboat rentals at Jetties Beach.

    Your Ideas

We've catered our ideas to Nantucket, but of course these can be applied to wherever you live. What are your plans for Father's Day? Any suggestions that we missed?

    An Insider's Guide

There are many places to grab a drink on Nantucket, but we wanted to share a few of our favorite places. Of course, any time you're on Nantucket with a drink in hand, you're in the right place. Check out our picks below and let us know yours.

    Cisco Brewery
What to order: Whale's Tale is their most popular beer, but a Triple 8 Blue Lemonade is also quite refreshing.
Why We Love It: It's the perfect place to sample local specialities on your way to or home from the beach. We love sitting outside and listening to the live music while enjoying a good drink.

    The Lobster Trap
What to Order: The Elbow Bender
Why We Love It: It's an island classic and if you want to really live like an islander just go ahead and order "a bendah" or "a bender" to go along with some fresh seafood.

    Ventuno
    What to Order: Espresso Martini
Why We Love It: They've got a great patio bar tucked behind the restaurant on Federal. A great place to relax for an after-dinner cocktail.
